Biblical origins of socialism

Filed under: Uncategorized — Ed @ 5:03 am

Some of the verses of the Bible which inspired the communal arrangements of the Anabaptist Hutterites:

Acts 2, verses 44 and 45:

“All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.”

Acts 4, verse 32:

“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions were his own, but they shared everything they had.”

and Acts 4, verses 34 and 35:

“There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from their sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.”
I don’t think you’d need to divide everything equally (especially if there was work available and you could choose how many hours you wanted to work), but no one should go hungry or homeless.
